The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering requires the procurement of a Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) system to support the analysis of volatile and semi-volatile compounds generated from the thermal decomposition and combustion of solid fuels and related materials. The system will form part of an integrated analytical capability under the PEACEPLUS Clean Air project, supporting research, method development, and future accredited testing activity. The primary function of the GC/MS system is to enable qualitative and quantitative analysis of evolved gases and combustion products, including volatile organic compounds, oxygenated species, and other trace emissions relevant to air quality and fuel characterisation. The system must be capable of operating as a standalone analytical platform and must also be compatible with a separately procured thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) system for evolved gas analysis workflows. The specification therefore includes requirements for interfacing, gas transfer, and handling of low-concentration, transient species.
