This service agreement concerns the FOSS operating system FreeBSD. FreeBSD is a modern, Unix-like operating system released under a permissive licence. It provides high standards of security, performance and stability in a single, production-ready package. The aim with the proposed work is to perform essential, maintenance tasks in FreeBSD’s core system technologies and infrastructure, that have long term impact in keeping the operating system secure, reliable, maintainable, and suitable for production use. The proposed work includes researching and implementing solutions for fundamental challenges impacting the longevity and independence of FreeBSD as part of open digital infrastructure, namely: gaps in areas including virtualization, containers, system upgrades and recovery, secure boot, software supply-chain information, package infrastructure, and streamlined support for Java ecosystem that is critical for operations of many enterprises and organisations that use FreeBSD.
