General information about the project: Pursuant to Act No. 624 of 11 June 2024 concerning the construction of a third Limfjord link, the Danish Road Directorate is constructing an approximately 20 km four-lane motorway connecting to the E45 “Nordjyske Motorvej” in the south and the E39 “Hirtshalsmotorvejen” in the north. The motorway will run west of Aalborg and cross the island of Egholm. The motorway will pass beneath the southern branch of the Limfjord (Sønderdyb) through a tunnel and cross the northern branch (Nørredyb) via low-level bridges. In addition to the approximately 2 km tunnel beneath the southern branch of the Limfjord, the project includes approximately 18 km of motorway in open countryside with two motorway interchanges, five junctions, relocation of a number of local roads and paths, demolition of bridges, reconstruction and widening of bridges, installation of noise barriers, and approximately 55 new structures, including three railway bridges, two valley bridges (twin bridges), two low-level bridges (twin bridges), and a pile-supported deck. The project also includes land reclamation in an area of the Limfjord south of Egholm. The tunnel structure consists of an immersed tunnel as the “main tunnel”, connected to the open tunnel ramps at each end via a cut-and-cover “transition tunnel”, together with associated technical buildings, tunnel basins, pumping stations, and mechanical and electrical installations (M&E). ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Specific information regarding the contract: The contract includes construction of: • The section from approximately km 108.100–112.600, including the immersed tunnel, cut-and-cover “transition tunnel”, and tunnel ramp structure (including M&E and technical buildings), land reclamation, coastal embankment and replacement habitats, roadworks, drainage works (including stormwater retention basin), fauna crossings and a bridge over a local road on the island of Egholm, as well as the two parallel low-level bridges over Nørredyb, each approximately 660 m in length. The contract includes the following works: • Site establishment • Preparatory works • Temporary works necessary for completion of the project • Civil engineering works (earthworks, bridges, tunnel and roads, drainage, technical buildings) • Specialist works (marine works, immersion of tunnel elements) • Mechanical and electrical installations • Utility works • Environmental mitigation and protective measures • Completion works (pavement, signage, safety equipment) ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Procurement timetable: The contract is expected to be tendered in the third quarter of 2026. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Form of contract: The contract will be procured with two phases: a collaboration phase (Phase 1) and a design-and-build contract phase (Phase 2). A separate collaboration agreement will be entered into for Phase 1, and the contract will therefore initially be conditional until Phase 2, when a binding agreement for execution of the works will be concluded. The contracts will be awarded on the basis of the best price-quality ratio.
