The AAU wishes to purchase a combined machine in view of crucial research conditions. This includes, inter alia: Standard solution is to buy two machines and hire an integrator to create a system where the machines talk together. This is fine for big scale electronics manufacturing where the procedures are standardized and the two machines are a part of a big production line. AAU want to use it in a research context where simplicity of programming trumps throughput. Having a single machine allows AAU to make complex assemblies because the sample does not need to go back and forth between different machines. AAU can integrate all or most processes in one machine which means there is no need to realign the sample or move it out from protective atmosphere. Furthermore, it is of great value that it can bed used for liquid metal assemblies where the dispensed liquid metal starts to oxidise when dispensed. If AAU have the whole process integrated in one machine, it can minimize the exposure time. Specific conditions regarding the specific procurement by the supplier in question: No other company builds a combined dispensing and pick and place units for high accuracy PCB manufacturing. All other companies focus on delivering separate units that are designed to be connected in-line on a factory floor. The PCB manufacturing is focused on high volume and high throughput therefore they specialize each machine for a specific manufacturing steps. PCB manufacturing requires multiple steps so six-eight machines are typically connected in line. There in not a big market for machines that join multiple functions and Essemtec FOX1 ultra is the only machine that AAU found that combines these two functions.
