For the Fraunhofer Center for Chemical-Biotechnological Processes (CBP) in Leuna, an "in-situ" sterilizable fermentation system consisting of two parallel fermenters, each with a working volume of 2 liters, is to be newly constructed and integrated into Module 1. Both fermenters are to be designed as packaged units with a central control system. The system is intended for the cultivation of apathogenic bacteria, yeasts, and fungi. The vessels must be easy to remove from the system and disassemble so that they can be cleaned in a standard laboratory dishwasher. Sterilization is to be performed using steam-in-place (SIP). The system will be installed in a non-explosive area and does not need to comply with GMP standards, but must otherwise comply with the regulations, guidelines, and technical standards in effect at the time of installation.
