The Dutch Army intends to replace one obsolete Mobile Jerry‑can Filling Station (MJFS) and to expand the capability with three additional, identical units, resulting in a total of four MJFS systems for the Dutch land forces. An MJFS is a 20‑ft ISO container (8 ft 6 in high) that automatically empties, cleans and refuels jerry‑cans with diesel or kerosene. The system includes its own generator, is operated by a crew of two, and can process more than 120 jerry‑cans per hour. It is transportable and deployable by a truck equipped with a Container Handling Unit (CHU).
The acquisition and the accompanying service contract are proposed to be executed through a single‑source procurement in line with the Defence and Security Procurement Act.
Since 2023 the Dutch combat brigades have been integrated into a German division. This configuration demands that training, operations and logistics be fully synchronised. Using identical equipment creates a single joint stock‑ and distribution chain, standardises maintenance and repair procedures, and imposes uniform documentation, thereby markedly lowering administrative burdens and costs. A common asset set also enables faster, safer joint exercises and allows direct equipment exchange in NATO or EU missions, improving response times and overall deployability.
Therefore, the need to boost interoperability and achieve greater standardisation between the Dutch and German divisions-driven by shared technical requirements—has led to the decision to adopt a single‑source procurement for the MJFS. By selecting the same MJFS model as the German division, supply processes, maintenance, documentation and training for both armed forces are streamlined, significantly reducing the logistical footprint and associated administrative effort.
