Louth County Council has three closed landfills which are under licence by the EPA. At site Number 1-Whiteriver landfill, there are seven side slope risers each with a leachate submersible pump and level sensor. The depth of these pumps varies from between 30 and 80 metres. The Council as part of licence conditions are required to maintain a level below 1 metre in depth in each side slope riser sump. The lagoon level is required to be below 1.90 metres. All side slope risers and lagoons are linked by level sensors, programmable logic controllers and underground wiring to a scada system. The site is supplied by single and three phase supply. At this site there are several buildings including a weighbridge, internal and external WC, office, store, canteen, engine compound WC, engine compound switch room and engine compound store/office. Each building has lighting circuits and power outlet sockets (note no power outlet sockets in WC’s). In addition, there are several external lighting circuits, hot water boilers, fixed heaters and groundwater pumps. There are seven external control panels associated with the side slope risers and a number of external control panels associated with the aeration unit, surface water lagoon, generator switch over point, electrical kiosks. There are also several internal control panels in the office, weighbridge and engine compound rooms. At site Number 2- Drogheda landfill, there are two sumps used for pumping sewage and surface water. Both have a duty and standby pumps and associated control panels. At the flare compound there are electrical sockets and electrical panel which operates an air compressor. At site Number 3-Dundalk landfill there is one sump with a duty and standby pump plus associated control panel which pumps to the sewer. All sites will require one full electrical test during the duration of the contract and testing of RCBO’s every six months. Ropes and chains are tested every six months. The contract may require the isolation of pumps and the lifting of pumps at Drogheda and Dundalk every six months to facilitate testing and may require chain replacement.
