In 2016, NHS Wales Informatics Service (NWIS) the predecessor organisation to Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW), procured a digital solution and associated support services to deliver Clinical Point of Care (POCT) services and medical devices through an Open procedure conducted in accordance with Regulation 27 of the Public Contract Regulations 2015 (PCR2015). The solution supports connectivity to POCT devices, management of devices utilised by POCT Coordinators across NHS Wales Health Boards and Trusts, and the provision of test results to the electronic patient record through integration with the Welsh Laboratory Information Management System (WLIMS) and, subsequently, the Welsh Results Reporting Service (WRRS). The contract was originally awarded to Conworx Technology GMBH, the predecessor organisation of Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics Ltd. The Contract was awarded for an initial term of seven (7) years, commencing on 19th September 2016 and expiring on 18th September 2023, with an option to extend for a further period of up to three (3) years, taking the contract term to 18th September 2026. The digital platform has since been specifically configured and developed to meet the requirements of NHS Wales and has become embedded within DHCW's national digital architecture. As a result, the solution is regarded as a bespoke platform that supports the delivery of critical clinical services across NHS Wales.
