Proposed Scope of Works Castleisland Community College comprises of a single storey main building with standalone boiler house and electrical switch room originally constructed in 1987 with a gross floor area of approximately 2,544m2 as shown in the school plan included at Figure 1 below. The proposed Climate Action Summer Works Project is for a Category 5 Science Labs upgrade including Gas Works. The existing Science Lab extends to a gross floor area of approximately 100m2 comprising: - • Main Science Lab • Preparation Room • Storeroom The proposed project is to upgrade the Science Lab in accordance with the current Department of Education TGD 003 and TGD 031 and the current template Science Lab layout in so far as is practical working within the physical constraints of the existing room layout. The school gross floor area is approximately 2,544 m2. The proposed project relates to a Category 5 upgrade to the Science Lab which has a gross floor area of 100m2. The science lab furniture equipment and flooring all date from the original 1987 school construction and have passed end of economic life and require full upgrade replacement and room refurbishment to current TGD standard in order to enable the school to deliver the current science curriculum effectively – refer to Photo 1 to Photo 6 attached. The Teachers workstation is very unsatisfactory with a raised platform and a step which is a trip hazard refer to Photo 1. There are very inadequate / inappropriate storage units with glass vessels being stored on open shelving – refer to Photo 3 and chemicals also on open shelving as shown in Photo 5. The fume cupboard shown in Photo 2 is not functional and the fume extract ventilation is no longer operational, and several of the lab sink taps and gas taps are defective and have been isolated.
