The Swedish Polar Research Secretariat is conducting a Request for Information (RFI) to obtain market information regarding the charter of a polar-capable research vessel for a planned scientific expedition to the Weddell Sea, Antarctica, in October–December 2027. The expedition is expected to last approximately 35 days at sea and will depart from and return to Cape Town, South Africa. The intended operations include research activities in ice-covered waters, oceanographic surveys, sea-ice studies, biological sampling, deployment of scientific equipment, and support for multiple research projects within the “Pulse of the Weddell Sea” programme. The purpose of the RFI is to identify potential suppliers and available vessel solutions capable of meeting the expedition’s operational, technical, scientific, and icebreaking requirements.
