Unpaid Carer Support Service
Midlothian Council are seeking expression of interest from Providers with experience of delivering Care Support Services to unpaid carers. Currently there is a small collection of third sector organisations providing support services to adult unpaid carers in Midlothian. The provider group is a combination of a main provider hosting and operating the carer centre and delivering a range of supports, including sharing statutory duties with the local authority for the provision of some supports and services required under the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016, and smaller funding arrangements for specific services. Midlothian Council is seeking services to be delivered against the duties of responsibilities within the Carers Act and also the priorities, outcomes and actions within the Midlothian IJB Unpaid Carers Strategy 2025-28 and Action Plan. It is anticipated that services will deliver a range of services and supports at a universal and targeted level, inclusive but not limited to: services supporting carers rights and identification; direct carer support in a range of formats; delivery of a carer advice and information service; a carer wellbeing and short breaks service; services to support employment and economic wellbeing; supports around care planning including completion of Adult Carer Support Plans and future planning activities such as Power of Attorney, Future Care Planning; support for carers to engage in planning for themselves and the person they provide care to. Services must demonstrate commitment to joint, collaborative working with Third sector groups and services, and public sector services, and also undertaking reporting to commissioners and the Scottish Government in relation to the Carers Census.
